Should I sign the document before visiting the Notary?

No. The document must be signed in the presence of the Notary Public. Signing beforehand defeats the purpose of notarial attestation. Bring the unsigned document along with your original ID proof.
For affidavits, stamp paper is generally required (Rs. 10 or Rs. 20 depending on purpose). For agreements, stamp duty is payable based on the value of the transaction under the UP Stamp Act. We can advise you on the exact stamp paper requirement for your specific document.
